The holiday season is a great time for gathering to celebrate with friends, family, and maybe even co-workers. Whoever you choose to celebrate with, opening up your outdoor living area to people you know, can be a great way to spread the holiday cheer. You have your outdoor space decorated beautifully and the invitations have been sent. Here are some great ideas to add to your fantastic holiday bash.

A great way to set the mood for your gathering is a signature drink. You have your outdoor patio bar stocked with the best of the best, now let’s add some character. Find a cocktail recipe you love (the fun is in the research) such as a Pumpkin Pie Martini, Spiked Apple Cider or Homemade Eggnog. Choose the one that fits your theme and personality, then add a catchy name to it. These are best served upon arrival to your guest as a welcome cocktail. Signature drinks don’t always need to be an adult beverage. Non spirited beverages are just as inviting. Another great idea if you are not a lover of the spirits is a beer flight. There are a number of delicious winter ales and holiday IPA’s to choose from when serving from the tap.

Now that your guests have a drink in hand it’s time to focus on the appetizers. A winter collection of finger foods is always nice, but a more simple cheese and charcuterie board is just as delicious, especially when paired with your favorite wines. Some great ideas for your winter cheese and charcuterie board selection are Gouda (smoked or regular), Apple Goat cheese or thinly sliced parmesan. Add some fruits to give it a crisp feel such as apples, pears, dates and figs. Any selection of meats are delicious, but different sausages and salamis work the best. Some hearty crackers to withhold the yummy elements and last, but not least, an array of nuts. Roasted pumpkin seeds are great, but pecans and hazelnuts are delicious too. Your guests will love it and the presentation displayed on a rustic board for their taking invites a feeling of community.

Another great way to help your guests get in the holiday spirit is music. Hiring a three string quartet is a great idea, but sometimes not practical. Turning on your outdoor sound system, with some relaxing music gives your outdoor space a cozy feeling. Your snack and drink in hand have a seat in your cozy outdoor living room and let the conversation flow. Don’t forget to have the fire pit lit and some cozy blankets nearby if needed.
Spending quality time with family and friends is what the season is about. Here’s to a holiday gathering filled with laughter and joy.
