Summer is in full swing and as much as you’re dying to enjoy your outdoor space with friends and family, COVID has made entertaining difficult this year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that the least amount of risk still is virtual only get-togethers, with the next level of risk being small in-person gatherings.
Although no in-person gathering comes without risk, here are a few tips to enjoy your patio space safely this summer, maintaining the social distancing rules and staying healthy while still having a good time.
1. The Guest List
Keeping the guest list small, inviting friends and family that you know have been following social distancing rules and live in your area. The great part about being outside on your patio is that you can easily maintain a distance of 6 feet. Getting your seating arranged ahead of time, so people don’t have to adjust when they arrive. The number of guests invited should be determined by how much outdoor space you have and also the rules that your community or state has established regarding in-person gatherings.
2. The Invitation
Communicate with your guests ahead of time what they should expect, the number of people attending and the precautions you’ll be taking, to make people feel comfortable. Don’t be offended if people aren’t ready for in-person gatherings yet and have to politely decline the invitation.
3. Food
Encourage people to bring their own food and drinks and put one person in charge of the serving shareable food items. It’s also a great idea to ask guests to bring their own plates and utensils to gathering. The idea is to lessen the number of people handling food items, plates, and silverware. Ordering takeout is also a great option.
4. Keeping it clean
Make sure to have antibacterial wipes and gel available for guests and if they feel more comfortable wearing a mask, encourage them to do so.
Just because the rules have changed a little, doesn’t mean you’ll have any less fun. Enjoying your outdoor space and socializing with a small group of friends in real life has never been more exciting, especially after months of just seeing friendly faces virtually. Follow these easy tips to enjoy your patio space safely this summer and enjoy small gatherings with the people you’ve missed these last few months.
